In order to determine the performance of acid fracturing in carbonate reservoirs, we conducted a lab scaled true triaxial acid fracturing experiment on high temperature carbonate rock. The fracture initiation, propagation behavior, and conductivity under the action of acid solution were analyzed. The 3-D micro computed tomography was applied to illuminate the fracture network patterns; coefficient of stress difference, acid etching time, and acid concentration were also analyzed. Results show acidification exhibits the lowest breakdown pressure compared with no-acidification, reduced by 58%.
