ABSTRACT
Dear readers of the journal Thermal Science, ublishing of Supplement issues besides regular ones, following policy of the Editorial board of the journal Thermal Science introduced in 2010, achieved in past three years full approval and has been extremely successful: upplement, Vol. 14, 2010, was devoted to the 50th Anniversary of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Kragujevac, Serbia; upplements 1 and 2, Vol. 15, 2011, were devoted to the specific topics - analytical methods for thermal science, analytical and numerical methods for solving different problems in flow and heat transfer of non-Newtonian fluids, and flow in cavities of different configuration; upplement 1, Vol. 16, 2012, initiated by the Faculty of Technical Sciences in Novi Sad, Serbia, was devoted to wide scope of topics connected with sustainable energy policy - implementation of renewable energy sources in existing energy system and increase of energy efficiency in energy system and industry. upplement 2, Vol. 16, 2012, is again devoted to the 50th Anniversary of one of the most distinguished faculties of mechanical engineering in Serbia - Mechanical Engineering Faculty in Niš, University of Niš, Serbia. apers selected by Guest editor Prof. Dr. Mladen Stojiljkovic, and presented in this issue, give wide review of the most important scientific and engineering results achieved in last several years by the academic staff and Ph. D. students at the Mechanical Engineering Faculty. Papers cover a number of different scientific and engineering topics having common name - mechanical engineering of constructions, equipments, and technologies. The only conditions for selection of the papers for this issue were - new contribution to the understanding of the thermal processes involved and high quality. o mark 50th Anniversary of some research and education institution is the most appropriate manner to fulfill one of the main tasks of the journal Thermal Science - to promote the best scientific results achieved in Serbia. If for education of the qualified researcher is necessary 10-15 years, for scientific institution to become mature, and to give recognized scientific results, it is necessary to pass two or three in house made generations of the researchers. For this process about 50 years is necessary, and this is the reason why we accepted proposal of the Dean Prof. Dr. Vlastimir Nikoilic, to prepare one issue of the journal Thermal Science to present most significant scientific and engineering results achieved by the researcher affiliated at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Niš. uest editor, Prof. Dr. Mladen Stojiljkovic, and coeditors Prof. Dr. Dragica Milenkovic and Prof. Dr. Gradimir Ilic, had an extremely difficult job to cover wide range of technologies present in mechanical engineering devices, having at the same time thermal processes as the critical link to achieve maximal efficiency of the process. am greatly thankful to Prof. Mladen Stojiljkovic, since he presented a wide range of processes and at the same time, different scientific methods from purely fundamental re-search up to applied engineering solutions. he papers selected in this issue clearly show significance of the thermal processes in mechanical engineering, and necessity to support fundamental and applied research of the thermal processes in teaching and research activity at mechanical engineering faculties. In 50 years of his activity Mechanical Engineering Faculty in Niš, shows that this is possible and useful, if the goal is to be able to solve problems in industry and to develop and implement new technologies and equipment, even with small funds available in Serbia for high education and scientific research.
